

The Department of Local Government, Housing and Sport (DLGHS) was created in July 2005, maintaining many of the responsibilities of the former Department of Community Development, Sport and Cultural Affairs.
Our agency plays an important role in the Northern Territory as its responsibilities affect the quality of life for all Territorians.
These responsibilities include housing, local government, governance, sport, recreation, library and Indigenous services, water safety, animal welfare and a significant role within all NT Regions through regional offices in four locations.
Our vision is to build strong and creative communities in the Northern Territory. We work towards this goal by building partnerships with both urban and remote communities to achieve improved outcomes.
The agency is committed to moving the Territory ahead through innovative policy development and effective service delivery. We support and facilitate strength and social and community development in everything we do. Our activities are aligned with wider Government policy objectives and we seek to add value by establishing and maintaining whole of government and across community linkages.
